Using the Patient First Mind Map

You will “deal” individual cards from either a Benefits or Harms deck. Each card (see image) contains important information including how many patients experience the benefit or harm. Once you feel you understand the information, you will evaluate the acceptability of the harm or the desirability of the benefit using the slider bar.

NAME OF HARM / BENEFIT

Text describing the harm or benefit.

A numerical statement of the total number of patients who may experience the harm or benefit out of 100 patients.

Numerical statements based upon various levels of the harm or the benefit.

Unacceptable/Unwilling

Acceptable/Willing

An icon array provides a picture of the frequency and level of harms or benefits

Once you feel you have enough information, please imagine you would feel if you took treatment and you experienced what is described on the card. If the card describes a benefit, then move the slider to the point on the bar that reflects how desirable the benefit would be. If the card describes a burden or harm, then move the slider to the point on the bar thar reflects how acceptable the burden or harm would be.
